Check it out. The Tower Theater is so old and majestic, it owns its own cat!

--- So there's this new album out, you may have heard of it, it's called Starmageddon.
The first release party for it was last night at Urban Lounge, playing to an almost packed house, with the ever exciting Rope Or Bullets opening (with dancers no less) and a set from Will Sartain. The band played the album almost start to finish, getting the crowd to sing along to a musical experience that took them roughly four years to finish. Watching Dave Combs and John Lyman own the stage for over an hour is an sight in itself, grooving to the light yet commanding voice of Mike Sartain flawlessly capturing the emotion to every lyric, accompanied with Joe Denhalter's fantastic backing. Not to mention the recent addition of hard hitter Kevin Ivers on the kit. And a nice surprise was the band performing with David Payneful from Red Bennies on keys for the night. If you're reading this on Saturday night, you can catch the Utah County encore of this experience at ABG's in Provo with Cavedoll opening. If not... sucks to be you. But at least you'll have the album! I didn't take any pics since I just went out to enjoy myself, but here's a shot from last night by someone else.
As this busy month picks up steam this week, Monday will bring us an interview with Dean & Shannon Hale about their books, another chat with all the previous Judge's Selection winners from Tower Theater's Open Mic Night competition (which has it's final event of the year on Wednesday, but we'll discuss that more later), and an early Gallery Stroll in the valley hit us with a trip to galleryUAF and the four artists featured this month. Not to mention check out UtahFM and City Weekly this week for some more surprises.

As of right now the is mostly updated for the month, and by the end of the week I should have info for the final dates in the year, including New Years info. I'm looking to add extra dates from some venues in Moab, Ogden and Provo (who if you're reading this, check your email!), as well as a few more in SLC. Thought I'd bring it up again while we're talking about events, Utah Arts Festival is still looking for bands to play for this year's event. They're taking applications online, which all you need is your info and a MySpace page to point them to. Head over here to fill out the entry form! Also I'm planning on getting at least one, maybe two more concerts in before the end of the year on top of it all. But as always, we'll see what happens.
