24-Hour Party People: See It! Love It!

In Section: Music Blog » Posted By: Jamie Gadette
Over the weekend, I discovered yet another person who has never heard of much less seen "24-Hour Party People," a great gem of a film starring Steve Coogan (Hamlet 2, Alan Partridge: Knowing Me, Knowing You) documenting Manchester's music scene circa 1979-92. How the movie managed to slip by so many music and/or comedy lovers' radars is strange considering how many folks freaked out over the two Joy Division films released in tandum last year. Maybe it has something to do with the cheesy Glamour-endorsed trailer.

What's the point of all this? Send this DVD straight to the top of your Netflix list. It's entertaining and informative, shedding light on the years between Joy Division, New Order and rave. It might even inspire you to check out The Happy Mondays when they play V Festival in August. But that's a pretty big maybe.
