Get Banned Books Week off to a flying start by checking in with a hot new author. Or choose one of many other options at your disposal.---

The King's English is hosting author Amor Towles (pictured), whose debut novel Rules of Civility has garnered much buzz. He'll be on hand at 7 p.m. for a reading and signing. The store is also helping celebrate Banned Book Week with events all week commemorating some of the daring works of literature that have "inspired" people to burn them, remove them from libraries and threaten death for their authors.

The Jewish Community Center is hosting a free screening of Queen of the Sun: What Are the Bees Telling Us?, in celebration of Rosh Hashanah. Environmental educator and beekeeper Ellen Hartz will be on hand for a discussion after the film, which starts at 7 p.m.

Blues fans will want to make their way to Pat's BBQ for some fine tunes courtesy of the Mike Reilly Band. And be sure to order some ribs. Or even just one rib. It's totally worth it.
