The Preservation Hall Jazz Band absolutely tore it up Monday night at the GAM Foundation's Jazz at the Sheraton show. Does Tuesday have anything that entertaining to offer?
That's probably not a fair standard, but the Preservation Hall Jazz Band show was such an outstanding show that they deserve mention. Playing songs that reach back centuries in some cases, the six-piece band (they were missing their sax player) was both technically amazing to hear and see, and incredibly charming when they chatted up the packed ballroom at the downtown Sheraton. A mixed-race, mixed-generation band blasting energetic jazz was just what the doctor ordered for getting the new year off to a great start for the jazz concert series, so kudos to the organizers.
Now, Tuesday night has some worthy highlights as well. The Harlem Gospel Choir winds up its two-night stand at Weber State University in Ogden, and guitar whiz Adrian Legg headlines at The State Room in Salt Lake City.
