X96's Radio From Hell program recently broadcast a call-in segment "Ask a Gay Rights Activist" featuring Eric Ethington. The show aired April 28 in the 8 a.m. slot. ---And kudos to Ethington -- I admire anybody who manages not only to be conscious at such a ghastly hour, but alert and articulate as well.
(When I asked Ethington about this, he chalked it up to a "ton of coffee." Still, I think the mysterious ability some humans have allowing them to function so early in the morning has a lot to do with the brain's sleep center. After all, one can't deny that Ethington does have a rather impressive posterior hypothalamus.)
And, as it turns out, callers are also awake at 8 a.m. -- even if they're not all as alert or articulate.
Now, any call-in radio show featuring an LGBT spokesperson will attract its share of loudmouthed bigots. But actually, in this case, most of the idiots texted anonymously. By and large, the callers were rational or at least genuinely curious, and Ethington had a chance to answer some interesting questions, including:
