They actually did it. Now the only private club left in Utah is the LDS Church.
I had serious doubts that the governor's plea to normalize the liquor laws in Utah would be batted around and end up in the trash. But, after some outrageous suggestions like 10-foot walls in restaurants and a list all drinkers held in a state database, they actually passed a reasonable bill.
I suspect that, given the fact we are in an economic free-fall and money is tight, the reminder that tourism is a $6 billion business gave them a little added incentive to recognize that being the laughing stock of the country on drinking laws was not good for business. Even Forbes magazine did a story on Utah's new liquor laws hailing Utah joining the Union.
