by Eric S. Peterson
- Posted // 2012-11-07 -

Blogger and author Courtney Martin will be speaking at a free University of Utah lecture on the new generation of activists that has learned how to translate idealism into impact.

The elections may be over but the work is just beginning for those seeking to better their community and world from the grassroots up. Martin, an activist author and editor of Feministing.com, will be sounding her clarion call for a new breed of activist by speaking of the activists profiled in her book Do it Anyway: The New Generation of Activists. Martin will speak of the lessons learned from activists she profiled including Nia Robinson, an environmental advocate from Detroit who has linked the issues of race, poverty and the planet together as one common cause, or artist/philanthropist Tyrone Boucher, a grassroots organizer and founder of Philadelphia’s Food Justice and Anti-Racism Working Group.

The lecture is free and open to the public, but an RSVP is required. Check it out at the University of Utah Dumke Fine Arts Auditorium, 410 Campus Center Drive, Thursday Nov. 8, 10 a.m. To RSVP, call 801-585-6375 or RSVP online at the Reynolds Lecture event site here.
