Tea Party Debt Commission Meeting Thursday

by Eric Peterson

Tea party group FreedomWorks is coming to Salt Lake City to brainstorm ways to cut federal spending. If you've got a hankering to slash government programs and have a few suggestions—or if you just want to watch the tea party in action—you won’t want to miss this forum.

The tea party has created its first-ever Debt Commission, a group paralleling the congressional committee exploring ways to trim the fat from the federal budget. At this meeting, tea party members will brainstorm cost-cutting measures, and those attending are encouraged to bring ideas to the table, as well. It will also be the first time FreedomWorks reveals results from an online poll the organization created where voters prioritized the budget cuts they thought were most important. If you've got ideas on how to cut government waste—or just want to recommend precise cuts, as opposed to mad slashing—the forum will be an interesting political dialogue you won’t want to miss.

Check it out, Thursday, Sept. 1, from 7-9 p.m. at Noah’s Meeting and Conference Center, 322 W. 11000 South, South Jordan.
