Rep. Carl Wimmer, R-Herriman is doing a lot of pimping for a fundraiser event next week. Is that because he’s actually afraid he’ll lose, or is it because he’s got bigger political plans?
The man truly is a political powerhouse. For a simple legislator he’s hanging atop a tsunami-like wave of anti-federal discontent that looks poised to demolish any democratic opposition in the next election--so why so much urgency behind his upcoming fundraiser?
With less than a week away from the May 20 “Reclaim our Sovereignty” fundraiser, FaceBook friends of Wimmer and Patrick Henry Caucus followers have likely caught as many as 7 message since mid April about the meeting. The messages advertising the event have not only come from Wimmer himself but also from the Patrick Henry Caucus as well as the Mike Lee for Senate FB site.
The event is also promoted in a new YouTube video where Wimmer touts his accomplishments in the legislature and his efforts to fight the big bad federal government. It’s clear from the final cut of the video--where Wimmer bursts through the doors of the House floor like John Wayne busting into a saloon—that there’s a new sheriff in town.
Really? Is this all necessary? Or more importantly, is this necessary to win re-election in the Legislature?
My answer would be no. But would such measures be useful in building up the war chest for a higher calling? Perhaps as the governor in 2010 or 2012? Yeah that sounds about right.
I’m not saying that’s what this meeting is, but if he were a shrewd politician, which I think he’s proven himself to be, it would only seem logical that he might set his sights on a bigger prize.
Really for someone that so rightly represents Utahns passion for states’ rights issues and anti-federal government vitriol, why not?
