It’s amazing what weapons the critics are wielding against the citizen Ethics initiative—like guns. According to a recent Trib article the group Gun Owners of Utah believe that a provision in the citizen’s ethics initiative requiring legislators to disclose property subject to regulation will mean guns. The improbable leap this assertion makes is that this will be a Big Brother registry of lawmakers who own guns—who will subsequently be death-paneled so Nancy Pelosi can pry the weapons from their cold dad hands.
It’s really amazing that this is surfacing as a critique of the initiative. Amazing because really there are valid critiques of the initiative already publicized that are worth serious thought like ways that the membership of the independent ethics commission can be gamed and manipulated.
But this gun fear seems ridiculous to the max! And it also seems like the kind of thing legislators would exploit to stop the implementation of an ethics reform that is out of their hands.
Just to stay ahead of the curve then I’m going to go ahead and break a false-yet exclusive- rumor, right now.
The ballot initiative also has secret language that says that for everyday legislators can’t agree upon the membership of the independent ethics commission…the gays can get married!
You heard it here first folks. Warn your neighbors.
