The Fab Four on big screen tonight

by Austen Diamond
- Posted // 2012-01-12 - KRCL’s Music Meets Movies series hits its one-year anniversary this month with a film that is, like the listener-supported station, all about community: After all, we all live in a yellow submarine.

The series started as a new medium for outreach. “We wanted to find a couple of opportunities to give KRCL listeners a chance to interact with the station outside of the airwaves. We also wanted to give people a chance to learn about music history or have fun ways to learn about music culture,” says Alana Burman, community outreach coordinator.

Over the past year, the films The Last Waltz, Futurism Written (Joe Strummer doc), the Rolling Stone’s Rock & Roll Circus and Exile on Main Street, among others, have been shown. The films are screened the second Thursday of each month, with a break during the summer, at Brewvies Cinema Pub (677 S. 200 West; 21 ).

Tonight, the classic 1968 cartoon with John, Paul, George and Ringo, Yellow Submarine, will hit the big screen. The Fab Four leave Pepperland to battle the Blue Meanies, who have drained the polychromatic place of all color. Classic hits from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band unfold at the forefront of the tale. “It’s a way we can celebrate the Beatles if you love them, or be introduced to them,” Burman says.

The screening is at 8 p.m.; tickets are $7 or $5 with a KRCL Member Card.
