Lounge Act Thursday: Strange Days

Noah and the Whale bring their brand of English alt-folk to In the Venue tonight. They’ve polished up their act and begun to delve into character writing, backed by sounds reminiscent of Tom Petty and Lou Reed. Read our interview with the band here.
Down in Provo, the multi-instrumentalist duo John Heart Jackie starts their two night Utah stint at Velour. The Portland combo wraps lulling vocals over sparse and inviting melodies, which is worth the minimal cover. If you can’t make it to Provo, they play The Woodshed tomorrow.
Around town tonight, highly-acclaimed author Justin Cronin will be at the Salt Lake City Main Library in support of his post-apocalyptic vampire tale, The Passage.
After getting the fire marshal’s boot from the Pickle Factory, New Works Theatre Machine has found a new home at the Rose Wagner Center for its second play. Ride Me: A Play With Cruel Intentions is an adaptation of an adaptation, of sorts—based on the movie Cruel Intentions which is based on the French novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses.
Head over to Bar Deluxe for the After Party of All After Parties. The 2011 Miss City Weekly Pride Pageant will be an evening of glitter, glam and drag queens. The judged competition will have five contestants strut their stuff and battle for the honorary title, just one day before the Utah Pride Festival.
