Lounge Act Tuesday: Something for you, too.

by Austen Diamond
- Posted // 2011-05-24 - The calendar marked in long anticipation, over a year ago, today reads “U2.” They’ve finally landed in Salt Lake City, but if you aren’t digging the Irish icons, there’s more out there this Tuesday evening.

U2’s 2010 visit was postponed after Bono underwent an emergency back surgery, leaving many left in want. But the time lapse should be worth the wait. For their second stop of this Spring/Summer tour, they are leaving no trick unturned for their enrapturous stage aptly called “The Claw” -- as if they needed anything beyond the dozens of solid-gold hits they’ve put out over the decades.

From the gigantuous proportions of a football stadium over to the coziest neighborhood bar in town, local troubadours take The Woodshed stage to pay homage to Bob Dylan. Some of the bands collecting and disseminating the songwriter’s canon are The Folka Dots, The Trappers, Ryan Tanner, In Dreaming, Highline High and Venacava. This should prove to be an exciting, cheaper alternative to the above.

Where Bono and Dylan croon and conjure deep images, others delve into melodies and instrumentation. Over at Kilby Court, the Texas quintet This Will Destroy Us will take those disinclined for vocals on sonic voyages tonight.

Outside the music realm, lawyer and investigative journalist Jeff Benedict will read from and sign his latest book, Poisoned: The True Story of the Deadly E. coli Outbreak That Changed The Way Americans Eat over at King’s English.
