Utah Pride has restructured and relaunched its social programs aimed at the younger LGBTQ demographic in the latest of a long line of attempts to get people involved in the community.
UP365, which stands for Utah Pride 365 days a year, is a social-emotional program, according to a Pride press release, which hosts monthly events and service projects aimed at 21- to 40-year-old LGBTQ community members.
The program's priority is getting "young people involved in Utah Pride," says UP365 Secretary Drew McGee. UP365 follows similar attempts to develop thriving social programs, former iterations bearing such names as The Crew and Simply Social, McGee recalls.
While McGee recognizes that there's typically"across the board" a lack of community involvement among younger LGBTQ members, he feels the new program is finding its mark. There's also been an injection of "new talent coming in," McGee says, resulting in the seven-member executive committee that runs the social program being restructured.
Jami Marsh is co-chair. "We are passionate about providing outreach, advocacy and a sense of camaraderie by organizing events that appeal to the interests of the 21- to 40-year-old LGBTQ demographic."
An example of UP365's growing success, McGee says, was Tuesday night, when over 100 people turned up at Brewvies to watch the presidential debate, drink, eat and socialize.
