The Gateway wants your tree for Christmas

While The Gateway continues to come to terms with City Creek, business continues as usual, it seems, when it comes to the delights of another Yuletide bearing down upon us. The Gateway wants to know if you have a fir tree that would be perfect for Christmas in the shopping center.

Each year, the mall asks folks to submit photos for what it calls "Utah's treasured tree." So, if you have a tall pine that might be a fit for the Gateway's holiday centerpiece at the Olympic Legacy fountain, post a photograph on the mall's Facebook page and your treasured tree might have the honor of being chopped down for the enjoyment of holiday shoppers.

Folks started submitting their trees as early as June, according to the mall, along with the stories of why these trees are so special to them. "Not only do people share photos of their majestic trees, but we get to hear the stories about the significance the trees have had in their lives," said Scott Bennett, The Gateway's general manager.

The mall covers the costs of cutting and transporting the tree to The Gateway for a lighting ceremony on Nov. 17, as part of its "Light up the Night" festivities.
