TV Tonight: Deception, The Bachelor, Bunheads

by Bill Frost
- Posted // 2013-01-07 - What’s new on the ‘lectro brain-sucker tonight:

Deception (NBC) Series Debut: It was originally titled Infamous, but NBC wised up and went with something more Revenge-y. In Deception (see? Better already), a police detective (Meagan Good) goes undercover to solve the mysterious death of her former BFF, a socialite heiress—even if she has to risk being seduced by Hamptons high society, which she totally will. Deception doesn’t nail the spicy soapiness of Revenge, and doesn’t even come close to the forensic grimness of The Killing (whew!), but since Revolution won’t return to this timeslot until March(!), you could do worse.

The Bachelor (ABC) Season Premiere: Sean Lowe (a Bachelorette leftover) sifts through dozens of desperate crazies to find Miss Right as ‘Merica watches, rapt. This fucking franchise is just going to regenerate itself forever, ain’t it?

Bunheads (ABC Family) Return: Remember this? Michelle heads back to Las Vegas and lands a sweet gig as a magician’s assistant—but what will become of the lil’ bunheads (and aspiring ABC Fam teen 'hos) back in Stars Hollow, er, Paradise?

The Mob Doctor (Fox) Series Finale: It’s finally over. Stay tuned for Kevin Bacon chasing serial killers!

Also new tonight:
Castle (ABC); The Biggest Loser (NBC); The Next Great Baker, Cake Boss (TLC); Switched at Birth (ABC Family); Love & Hip-Hop, Blank Ink Crew (VH1); The Layover With Anthony Bourdain (Travel); The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Vanderpump Rules (Bravo); Teen Mom 2, Catfish (MTV); WWE Raw (USA)

I actually think Deception looks pretty good, almost like a mix of Revenge and Veronica Mars. I plan to check it out. I haven’t been able to watch it yet because I’ve been working extra hours at DISH, but the premiere is saved on my DISH Hopper. It was set to auto-record Deception along with the other primetime shows on the four major networks using PrimeTime Anytime, so it will be easy for me to go back and check out the show even though I forgot to set a timer.
