Showcases for local filmmakers

Curious what your friends and neighbors might be creating behind a camera? Two upcoming events showcase students and other aspiring filmmakers.

On Sunday night, Oct. 7, the Tower Theatre hosts the 2nd annual fall showcase of new works from students in the University of Utah Film & Media Arts Department. The juried "festival" features works created in the department's production courses, and the audience will be invited to vote on a prize-winning "Best of Fest." Showtime is 7 p.m., and admission is free.

On Monday, Oct. 8, Brewvies presents a monthly compendium of short films by local filmmakers titled "Channel 801". Between 7 and 12 new short works will be debuted, giving the filmmakers a chance to show works in a variety of genres to an audience. Showtime is 7 p.m., also with free admission. (21+)
