Two of the landmark films in movie history are celebrating landmark birthdays by returning to the big screen this week.
On Wednesday, March 21, Fathom Events and Turner Classic Movies presents the classic World War II romance Casablanca in select theaters -- locally at many Cinemark and Century Theatres locations -- at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The special one-day-only event is a lead-up to the 70th anniversary release of a re-mastered Casablanca on Blu-ray.
Meanwhile, Francis Ford Coppola's triumphant organized-crime melodrama The Godfather turns the big 4-0 this year, and Coppola personally oversaw a new frame-by-frame digital restoration along with cinematographer Gordon Willis. The film will be featured for two showtimes daily at the Megaplex Theatres Jordan Commons in Sandy beginning Friday, March 23.
