Sundance 2012: Locals Best Bets 1/22

There are fewer top-notch options for today, but you might  be able to find at least one winner in every slot.

The early afternoon pick is Indie Game: The Movie, a fascinating, wonderfully human look at the trials and anxieties of being an artist creating in isolation, but with a fresh perspective by way of its focus on video-game creators. For the late afternoon, the critics who have had a chance to see it have been wild about Beasts of the Southern Wild, an evocative child's-eye-view of growing up in the American South.

Evening offers Young & Wild, a Chilean comedy-drama about a 17-year-old exploring her sexuality while growing up in an evangelical Christian family; it's more fair-minded than you might expect, but still very sexually explicit. No definitive recommendations for the late-night slot, but fans of the killer-tire thriller Rubber may want to catch Wrong, the new offering from director Quentin Dupieux.
