Now-a-Dollar Aug. 19

It's a thin week at the bargain theaters, with the only new arrival a low-key immigration-themed drama. ---
A Better Life casts Demián Bichir as an illegal immigrant trying to establish a gardening business to help keep his teenage son out of trouble. Our contributor Andrew Wright praised Bichir's performance, and the overall restraint of the storytelling--right up to the point where it gets unnecessarily manipulative. Take a chance on the kind of movie that doesn't always make a stop at the local second-run houses.
