June is time for Pride, which means the Damn! These Heels Film Festival can't be far behind. And it's quite a lively, impressive lineup they've put together for 2011.
The 8th annual LGBT-themed festival runs June 17 - 19 at the Tower Theatre, starting with the opening night Utah premiere of Beginners (pictured), starring Ewan MacGregor as a man whose aging father (Christopher Plummer) comes out as gay. Several other festival feature films debuted at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, including Circumstance (about an Iranian family dealing with their children's unconventional sexuality), Gun Hill Road (about a recently paroled Puerto Rican man whose son is exploring his transgender identity) and Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same (self-explanatory, really). If documentaries are your bag, catch the story of lesbian, country-singing comedian twins from New Zealand in The Topp Twins.
Individual screenings are only $5 per ticket, available for purchase online or at the Tower Theatre box office. A limited number of $25 full-festival passes -- which will include the Beginners screening and opening night gala -- are also available.
