Utah Loves Pole

by Scott Renshaw

It's a fitness craze based on an occupation where the uniform has traditionally been a G-string and pasties. And now, the center of the pole universe is wholesome, family-values Utah.

According to a press release, the three major agencies governing and directing pole fitness -- the workout offshoot of good old, all-American pole dancing -- are now based in Salt Lake City. The Pole Fitness Association, International Pole Sports Federation and Pole Dance International Magazine have banded together, attempting to legitimize the activity/sport in heretofore unimagined ways. On the list of goals: Working with the International Olympic Committee to get pole sports recognized by the 2016 Summer Games.

When the United States shows the world that no one knows how to slink around a pole the way Americans do, Utahans can feel that special tingle of pride (or something) that comes from knowing the effort started right in their own back yard.

Absolutely amazing! I've seen some real pole athletes before-and they are totally in shape, storng & incredible at what they do on the pole. I can't wait to see this go all the way! I think it's great Utah has a hand in it!

Scott, just to clarify...There will be absolutely NO 'slinking' around any poles. I'm not even 100% sure what that means, but the sport of pole is very different than what most people think of as 'pole dancing.' It's a purely athletic, acrobatic form of fitness-Actually, when inducted into the Olympics, it will be referred to as Vertical Gymnastics...which is what it is. Sorry, 'slinking' and stripper fans....those things will elicit immediate DQ from competition.

Feel free to youtube some champion pole athletes that are currently performing & competing:

Try these 4 from Salt Lake City! Zoraya Judd, Lorinda Coombs, Chastitie Lujan & Becca Butcher.

Yes...The picture was nabbed off the PDI Magazine site! Allison Cox is one of Pole Dance international Magazines Global Fitness Rep team Members and a National Champion Competitor. Although she isn't based in Utah, this state does have several of the best pole athletes in the world! Check out Lorinda Coombs, Becca Butcher, Zoraya Judd...and maybe even me :) Chastitie Lujan
