Beck in the Saddle Again

by Scott Renshaw

Hey, a hate-spewing radio clown beloved by Utahns is coming to town. Yeah, I know, that probably isn't specific enough.

In this case, the megadouche is Glenn Beck, and we inform City Weekly readers primarily so they know places to avoid during the coming weekend. That's when Beck brings his "American Revival" road show/patriorgasm circus to EnergySolutions Arena on Saturday, and kicks things off before that with a book-signing at the downtown Deseret Books Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. for his "political thriller" The Overton Window. Step carefully to avoid the pools of bile, saliva and crocodile tears in those areas. Or, for giggles, show up at the book signing with a copy of Alexander Zaitchik's new Beck takedown Common Nonsense, just to see the look on his face.

I always love coming back to Utah (I grew up there, and look forward to my trips home), and was startled by the ENORMOUS billboards with this guy's up-close face on them around SLC. Like he's some kind of rock star or something. Really disturbing, to say the least. That radio station must be making a ton of money to post all those billboards of Beck, Rush, etc around town. Advertisers must be clamoring to reach the conservative demographic there. Made me wonder what kind of reaction those billboards would have here in the arguably more progressive-minded state of Connecticut. More wrecks on the highway I would guess as people careened off the interstate in anger....
