With a lot of winemakers in town for the Park City Food & Wine Classic this week, there are a number of additional non-Classic wine dinners happening. Here are a couple that promise to be really good ones.
First, on Friday, July 12, The Farm restaurant at Canyons resort will be the location for the "Fisher & Zacherle Wine Dinner." Whitney Fisher, winemaker for Fisher Vineyards, and Nile Zacherle, winemaker for Zacherle wines, along with David Arthur Vineyards and Montagna, will be on hand for a six-course dinner prepared by Chef Philip Grubisa, paired with three wines from each producer.
Menu items include housemade charcuterie paired with Zacherle 2011 Riesling; whipped pork-belly ravioli with Zacherle 2010 "Las Tres Hermanas;" wild Monterey anchovy with Fisher 2006 Mountain Estate Chardonnay, and much more.
The cost for the Fisher/Zacherle dinner is $60 for food and $65 for the optional wine pairings. For reservations and details, call 435-615-8080, or e-mail email@example.com.
Then, on Tuesday, July 16, Spencer's will host a wine dinner featuring James Cahill, director of winemaking at Soter Vineyards of Willamette Valley, Oregon. Chef James Plant has constructed a special menu, with wine pairings by sommelier Louis Koppel.
Dinner items and pairings include oysters "two ways," paired with Soter Estate Brut Rose (which I love); Utah trout with Soter North Valley Chardonnay; crusted lamb with Soter Mineral Springs Ranch Pinot Noir; and others.
The Soter dinner at Spencer's is $40 for food and $35 for the optional wine pairings. Seating is very limited. Phone Spencer's at 801-238-4733 for reservations.
