This weekend, Deer Valley Resort will host its annual Celebrity Skifest, as it has done for more than 20 years, in conjunction with JUMA Entertainment. The event is a charity to benefit Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s Waterkeeper Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the world's waters, including the protection of every major watershed around the world. Saturday is also opening day for the 2012-2013 ski season at Deer Valley Resort.
The Celebrity Skifest is always entertaining, and this year's celebrity participants include Larry David, Rosie Perez and Kevin Nealon, in addition to Olympic ski legends. The Celebrity Challenge race will take place at noon on Saturday at Deer Valley's Birdseye ski run, located mid-mountain at Silver Lake. On Sunday, a head-to-head pro-am race will begin at noon, also on the Birdseye run. The Skifest will also be televised on Sunday, Dec. 9, on CBS at 5 p.m. EST.
The public is invited to view the races live from the Silver Lake Lodge. No lift tickets or passes are required.
On Saturday evening, the Waterkeeper Benefit Gala will be held at the Montage, which includes cocktails, dinner, an auction, remarks by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and a live concert by Melissa Etheridge for just 300 guests. 100% of the proceeds from the Gala will benefit Waterkeeper Alliance. Tickets and packages begin at $1,250.
