Maid-Rite Comes to Utah

H.H. the Rev. Bad Brad Wheeler -- of KRCL Radio and Legendary Porch Pounders fame -- recently contacted me to express his excitement over the first-ever Maid-Rite franchise opening in Utah. "What's a Maid-Rite?" was my response. I'd never heard of it.

But, after doing a little research, I've discovered that Maid-Rite, an Iowa-based fast-food-restaurant chain, has quite a cult following, which includes Bad Brad Wheeler. Well, good news for Maid-Rite fans: A new Maid-Rite has opened in Layton, at 701 Main Street.

The Des Moines-based Maid-Rite first opened in 1926, although it wasn't called by that name yet. Supposedly, a respected butcher named Fred Angell, in Muscatine, Iowa, combined a "special blend and grind of the finest Midwestern beef with a selected recipe of secret spices and created the one and only Maid-Rite sandwich." The story goes that the business got its name after a customer exclaimed, "You know, Fred, this sandwich is just made right!" Thus, the signature Maid-Rite (not so sure about the spelling of "maid" versus "made" or "right" versus "rite")  sandwich was born.

Maid-Rite menu specialties include the Original Maid-Rite, The Tender-Loin (which Rev. Wheeler raves about), The Pulled Pork Sandwich, The Iowa Cheese Steak, The Rare Bit, The Open-Faced Hot Beef Sandwich, signature salads, wraps, malts, floats, shakes and more.

I'm looking forward to getting my lips around a Maid-Rite sandwich, and when I do, you'll be sure to hear about it.

Maid-Rite   is correct  in spelling     back in Neveda Iowa   when we had family get togathers for 50 or so more years we always had to get one of those Maid-Rites when we visited  from Utah.  allmost like a Mcdonalds there with at least one in every town.
