Anytime is a great time to dine at Alta's Shallow Shaft restaurant, where chef Kurtis Krause and the entire Shallow Shaft team always make wining and dining there an exceptional experience. The world-class Wasatch Mountain views don't hurt, either. ---
Well, here's even more incentive to head up to Alta. On Wednesday, Feb. 22nd, Shallow Shaft will host a wine dinner featuring Couloir and Straight Line wines and winemaker Jon Grant. I'm especially fond of Grant's lower-alcohol Pinot Noirs, which are food-friendly, subtle and elegant.
The tentative menu for the Couloir/Straight Line wine dinner is as follows:
Day Boat Scallop with green curry tart, apple lacquer and crispy ginger - 2010 Straight Line Sauvignon Blanc
Wood-smoked Veal Short Rib with warm chanterelle and grilled romaine salad - 2010 Straight Line Tempranillo
Intermezzo: Green Apple Saison Sorbet
Grilled Venison Chop with cherry-parsley pistou, roasted potatoes and wilted greens - 2009 Couloir "Oppenlander" Pinot Noir
Amano "Guayas" Chocolate Tarte with white truffle gelato, black currant foam and shaved chocolate - 2010 Straight Line Syrah
The cost per person is $35 for the dinner and an additional $40 for the optional wine pairings.
