Glad You Asked: Weekend Edition

Dear GYA, Whoopdy doo -- who cares if President Obama released his workout playlist? Seriously, Al Green? The Rolling Stones? Jay-Z? Those guys are lame. I released a playlist, too, and you can bet your ass it's filled with American rock & roll like Nickelback, Our Lady Peace and a live concert album by Sum 41. Anything happening this weekend where I can mosh out while I workout? -- Paul Ryan

Paul, all of those bands are Canadian -- not that there's anything wrong with that. Well, luckily for you, there are plenty of great options for the weekend. Let's start with Friday:

- The Eccles Center For The Performing Arts will host the Ailey II Dance Company, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

- At the Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork, check out the SLC Yoga Dance Rave, starting at 8 p.m.

- Stand-up comedian Christopher Titus will be at Wiseguys West Valley at 7 and 9:30 p.m.

- For some college-basketball action, join the Utes for their season opener as they face off with Simon Fraser University at 7 p.m.

- David Bazan will perform his album Control in its entirety at Urban Lounge. Doors open at 9 p.m.

And Saturday's events:

- '90s alternative band The Toadies will be onstage at The Depot with Helmet opening things up. The doors open at 9 p.m.

- The Utes football squad is back at home versus the Washington State Cougars. Kick-off is at 1 p.m.

- Punk rapper Mod Sun will be live on the rhyme at In The Venue/Club Sound. Doors open at 8 p.m.

- Stand-up comedian Steve Soelberg will be on the mic at Wiseguys Ogden at 8 p.m.

- Capitol Theatre will be hosting Ballet West's presentation of The Lottery at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday's events:

- Big Shiny Robot, True TV & Brewvies Present: Season 3 of the AMC zombie-apocalypse epic The Walking Dead -- free, on the big screen. The show starts at 7 p.m. (21+)

- Folksinger Awna Teixeira will be throwing a CD release party at The Garage, starting at 6 p.m.

- Red Butte Garden will be hosting the Utah Orchid Festival, starting bright and early at 9 a.m.

- The Page-to-Stage Festival will be going on at the Rose Wagner Center. Click for more details.

- The Craft Sabbath November Boutique will be kicking off at 1 p.m. at the downtown Main Library.
