Glad You Asked: They Live, Bowerbirds and Average White Band

Dear GYA, Sometimes, I feel like Netflix doesn't know me at all. Like, last night, I really needed my 'flix to come through with a solid Keanu Reeves flick, but it just wouldn't listen and kept pushing for Freddie Prinze Jr. and weird anime movies. It's like I'm living with a complete stranger. Do you have any recommendations for tonight that don't involve Freddie Prinze Jr.? - Marsha Langalang, West Valley City

Marsha, We all go through rough patches with our Netflix. You just have to get through these tough times -- trust me, your relationship will be better for it. Here are a few good things happening this evening:

City Weekly will be showing a free screening of the 1988 horror classic They Live at Brewvies tonight. Rowdy Roddy Piper plays a guy who goes on a rampage when he finds a pair of sunglasses that reveal that some of us are actually aliens trying to take over the planet. The show starts at 8 p.m. (21+)

Rustic-folk rockers Bowerbirds will be onstage at Kilby Court. Their newest album, The Clearing, was recorded at April Base, Bon Iver’s cabin studio in Wisconsin, so it’s no surprise that it easily compares to Bon Iver, as well as bands Horse Feathers, Lost in the Trees and Great Lake Swimmers. Strand of Oaks and Prypyat share the stage. The show starts at 7 p.m.

The Scottish funk and r&b crew Average White Band will be at the Egyptian Theatre in Park City. Known for their hits like "Pick Up The Pieces" and "Cut the Cake," AWB is arguably now more recognized for being sampled by hip-hop groups like Beastie Boys, TLC, The Beatnuts, Too Short, Ice Cube, Eric B. & Rakim, Nas and A Tribe Called Quest. The show starts at 8 p.m.

A few other worthwhile tracks happening tonight:

- Wiseguys in Trolley Square will be hosting Open Mic Night, starting at 7:30 p.m.

- There are tons of events going on all week for Salt Lake Design Week; click the link for more details.

- Weber County Pleasant Valley Branch is offering up a free screening of Zombieland at 6:30 p.m.
