Dear GYA, What do I think about the Oklahoma City Thunder being in the NBA Finals? What do I think about it?! Well, let me see, four years ago we had an NBA team; next thing I know, they move to Oklahoma and now they're in the damned Finals. So, what do I think? Shoot, I could care less -- we still got the WNBA Seattle Thunder. They're awesome. Anything happening tonight besides watching the stupid Finals? - Sleepless in Seattle
Sleepless, losing an NBA team is tough. I hear Fort Wayne, Indiana, is still pissed about the Pistons moving to Detroit. It gets better, though. Just look at how happy and prosperous the people of Fort Wayne are. Here's what's happening tonight:
Bust out your wallet chain and Punky Colors because at 7 p.m., In The Venue/Club Sound will be hosting the alternative-grunge band Collective Soul. The Georgia-based crew is known for such hit albums as December, Shine and The World I Know. This is guaranteed to be an evening filled with some good old '90s alternative rock.
Head to the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art for a free screening of the controversial film Casting Jesus at 7 p.m. Directed by Christian Jankowski, the film profiles Vatican directors as they struggle with the concept of casting an accurate and meaningful Jesus Christ for their films. Stick around afterward for a discussion panel that I'm sure will be thought-provoking.
At the Kimball Art Center, check out some local student art with the Wasatch Back Student Art Show. For this particular show, students were asked to create original artwork inspired by everyday objects, highlighting visual characteristics of daily life. This event is free and will be going on all day today.
A few more worthwhile events happening today:
- The 15th Street Gallery will be showcasing the works of John Bell, Trent Call and Paris Gerrard.
- La Noche, Watches and The Zombie Cocks will be performing at Kilby Court, beginning at 7 p.m.
- The Swaner EcoCenter will be offering up its evening Owl Prowl hike, starting at 6 p.m.
