Dear GYA, I just wanted to let you know that I have formally dropped out of the race. God, I'm broke. But don't you worry about Ol' Newty, I'll be living off government assistance, a Kickstarter page I've created and I found a Nigerian Prince online who wants to send me his life savings. Hopefully, things will turn around soon. Anything happening today ... that's cheap? - Newt Gingrich
Newt, there are plenty of ways to get money for your campaign. You know, oftentimes when I need money, I get a second job. I suggest staying in your skill set -- you know, like mowing lawns or giving backrubs. Anyways, here are a few cheap things going on today:
In honor of Mother's Day, City Weekly and Brewvies are teaming up and presenting a free screening of the cult classic Mommie Dearest tonight at 8 p.m. Plus, The Word will be there handing out swag and prizes. Your mom would want you to go ... I think.
Can you burp the alphabet? Play the Sousaphone or juggle puppies? Maybe do all three at the same time? Whatever your obscure talent is (as long as it's legal), it's welcome at Brother Chunky's Big Variety Show happening tonight at the Deerhunter Pub. However, most of the time this evening consists of musicians and the occasional comedian; Big Chunky is looking for burlesque dancers. Don't disappoint Big Chunky. The show starts at 9 p.m.
Do you have a bunch of crap lying around your house? Well, unless your a minimalist, you probably do, so why not turn all that useless junk into something useful at Craft Night at Our Lady of Snow Center. Learn how to make functional items like messenger bags! Woo hoo! The workshop starts at 6 p.m.
Other worthwhile events:
- The Dance of Passion art exhibit is going on at the Contemporary Design & Art Gallery all day and it's free!
- Geeks Who Drink pub trivia at The Sidecar tonight at 7:30 p.m.
- at 9 p.m., Cheers to You Midvale is hosting C2U Karaoke.
