Glad You Asked: Weekend To-Dos

Dear GYA, Years ago, I made a vow to never rake leaves again. I'm a firm believer that nature always takes care of itself, even when it comes to my yard. And now, after last night's mighty tempest, it would appear that all my leaves are conveniently placed on my neighbor Todd's lawn. Anything happening this weekend now that the wind took care of my leaf situation? Judd Flarsh, The Avenues  

Judd, I also believe nature is the solution to all of our problems; that's why I don't pick up my dog's poop. Eventually, nature will turn the nutrient-rich poop into healthy, robust topsoil. My neighbors love the free soil. Here's what's happening this weekend, starting with Friday's events:

R&B singer John Legend will be at Kingsbury Hall this evening. The show starts at 8. Tickets start at $45.  

If you're into dudes with mascara and industrial rock, check out Black Lodge at The Metro tonight. The show starts at 8. Tickets are $5.  

Big Freedia, the queen of New Orleans bounce, returns to Urban Lounge tonight. Jesse Walker and Mamabeatz are also on the bill. The show starts at 8. Tickets are $10.    

Sundance Resort is hosting the Robert Redford Film Series. Watch classic Robert Redford films in his private screening room for free! Tonight's film is A River Runs Through It starting at 8.

In Heber City, Folk Hogan will be playing a free show at The Other End Bar & Grill, beginning at 9 p.m.

For a dose of roots rock reggae, head to The Depot for Groundation at 9 p.m. Tickets are $21. 


Saturday's events:  

Christian rock, metalcore band The Devil Wears Prada will be at In The Venue. The Ghost Inside and Texas in July are also performing. The show starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20. 

Rappers Hopsin and Yelawolf are performing at the Murray Theater tonight. Broken Silence,  The Beginning At Last and Dope Thought are also on the bill.  Tickets are $12 to $15. The show starts at 8. 

Pop-punk band Motion City Soundtrack will be at The Complex Reliant K will warm it up. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $18.  

Singer Cat Power will be at The Depot tonight. Nico Turner is also performing. The show starts at 8. Tickets are $35.  

Psychedelic-rock band Sleepy Sun will be onstage at Urban Lounge. Max Pain & The Groovies, Red Telephone and Green River Blues will open. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5.   

Bands Berwanger and Spirit Master will be at Kilby Court. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $7.  

The Winter Farmers Market will be going down at the Rio Grande Depot at 10 a.m.  

Singer/songwriter Bill Callahan, aka Smog, will be at The State Room this evening. The show starts at 9. Tickets are $16.  


Sunday's events:

The Geek Show Podcast will be happening at Brewvies tonight. Yelling at the screen is encouraged, so it's sort of like Mystery Science Theater. The show starts at 5. Admission is free.  

Ska skankers Less Than Jake will be at The Complex. Anti-Flag, Masked Intruder and Get Dead are also performing. The show starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20. 

The band Swearin' will be at Kilby Court. The Glass Gentlemen will warm it up. Doors are at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8.
