If you need refresher on the issues before the 2011 Legislature this session, look no further than the Be $ensible forum at Sam Weller’s Bookstore, featuring KUTV 2’s Rod Decker and The Salt Lake Tribune’s Paul Rolly. Besides forecasting the 2011 session, the forum will also discuss the need to return sensibility to political discourse and governance. Attendees can find a list of books to purchase at a discount to be donated to the Bennion Elementary School, which serves economically disadvantaged students.

Immigrants Rights Rally
Monday, Jan. 24
Join the citizen activists of United for Social Justice as they close out the opening day of the Legislature with a raucous rally on the Capitol steps in support of immigrants’ rights. The rally is meant to tell legislators that the state doesn’t need an Arizona solution or even a Utah solution; it needs to leave it up to the federal government and, in the meantime, show respect and compassion for immigrants currently living in Utah.

Nobody is Disposable Day

It’s easy to forget that budget and program cuts affect real people when there isn’t a face associated with the black-and-white figures legislators deal with. That’s why advocates are rallying to remind legislators that nobody is disposable. Join folks from the Coalition of Religious Communities, the Homeless Opportunity Rights Network and others in reminding lawmakers about the very human toll of cutting health care and social services to Utah’s poor.
