Closure: Bar-X Goes Bye-Bye
Perhaps it was the next-door proximity to the successful Johnny’s on Second or the beer-only policy that scared them all away, but Bar-X Inn (155 E. 200 South) is turning off its Vegas-style sign—for good—on Friday, July 9. Opened in 1933, this place is still kicking 77 years later—albeit fitfully. Join Club Matters for a beer if you’ve never have been to the X before, and say goodbye to one of the oldest neighborhood bars in the state. Make sure you bring cash, because this place is old school and frowns on plastic (checks are also not kosher).
Tappin’ It: The Tap Room In Sugar House
The long road of pure party pleasure in the east bench ‘burbs of Salt Lake City known as Highland Drive begins underground in a bar dubbed The Tap Room (2275 S. Highland Drive). Patrons have been known to escape the heat of Utah summers from noon to 1 a.m. every day, embraced by the cool, cinderblock arms of this basement bar. Neighborhood bars abound in Utah, but none is quite like this one. Wednesdays and Sundays, enjoy live music beneath and above ground on their patio—yes, there is a street-level element to this place, making it the perfect outdoor spot to sip on brews after surrounding businesses close.
It’s Going Down: Downstairs in Park City Hosts Dresden
Dave Dresden (of Gavriel Dresden) will likely sell out the popular Park City club known as Downstairs (625 S. Main) on Friday, July 30. Head up and go down(stairs) in a town known for partying with a DJ renowned for his amazing skills and musical selections. Tickets still available at Smith’s Tix outlets.
