The Witches’ Ball: 666 S. State
Not many witches can rival Margaret Hamilton’s performance as the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz—but that’s all right, because The Witches’ Ball takes in good and bad witches alike. On Oct. 29, Bar Deluxe (666 S. State) will be transformed into a playground for witches of all sizes, types and kinds, and the only requirement is a costume and good attitude. DJ sets and performances from Downtown Angie Brown, DJ Dances with Wolves and Red Siren are well worth the $10 cover. And the devilish address of Bar Deluxe makes it one of the better places to celebrate Halloween. The ball begins at 9 p.m.

Lumpy’s: Dance Myth
Myth—a “Halloween event,” as the flier proclaims—is a chance for the serious business of sports-bar promotion to be set aside and the fun of Halloween to take over Lumpy’s Downtown (145 W. Pierpont Ave. [250 South]). The dance floor will see more action on Oct. 29 than it usually does in a whole month, as DJ Elvis Freshley takes over the 1s and 2s. The event is presented by Greek Nights.

Metro: Dead Man’s Party
Jeffrey Hacker’s Dance Evolution has been presenting its Halloween celebration, Dead Man’s Party, for 10 years now, and the beginning of a new decade means it’s pulling out all the stops. Costumes are required for entry into The Metro (540 W. 200 South), and there will be a costume contest. But don’t worry, Hacker isn’t a hack, as he explains: “There will not be categories for slutty or stupid costumes. I deal in scary and awesome.”

Ex-Wife’s: Still There
Ex-Wife’s Place
(465 S. 700 East) is still one of Club Matters’ favorite bars to cover, and the two times a year we shoot pictures there seems to be not nearly enough.
