If Ballet West’s recent exhilarating revival of some the most engaging and daring works of the Ballets Russes ignited your passion for ballet, you’re in luck. Because as long as Artistic Director Adam Sklute is in charge, the Ballet West season isn’t over until a few of the company’s dancers showcase some of their original choreography.
This year, Ballet West’s Innovations program is slated to be staged—in a slightly abridged format—in Park City. The bill will include the premiere of Ballet West artist Thomas Mattingly’s “Above a Grey Expectation,” as well as encore performances of George Balanchine’s “Prodigal Son,” and Ballet West soloist Peggy Dolkas’ “Yes, But How Did You Get There?” The final piece, “Red Angels,” is a scintillating work by acclaimed choreographer and former Alvin Ailey principal dancer Ulysses Dove, which is sure to ignite and excite Utah audiences just like the Ballet Russes did.
