A consummate storyteller, Audrey Niffenegger crafts prose that’s emotionally involving. Her stories generally have a supernatural element, yet she writes straightforward fiction with tangible themes of loss and the transitory quality of everything, such as in the acclaimed The Time Traveler’s Wife. Niffenegger’s latest, Her Fearful Summetry—loosely based on her experience guiding tours at London’s Highgate Cemetery—delves into the esoteric. The main character, Elspeth, intertwines herself as a ghost into the lives of those left behind; there’s apparently life after death, as well as conflict.

The author will read from this beguiling tale at The King’s English. Niffenegger seems all but normal and complacent herself. Imagine a crazy cat-lady, with a slight British accent and a metaphysical inclination. The Q&A session should be interesting, if not peculiar. Ponder your queries ranging from time traveling to ghost stories. Tickets are $10, but if you buy Her Fearful Symmetry at King’s English, they’ll let you and a friend attend for free.
