Beer Bar

Plenty of brains, brews and brats to go around

By Ted Scheffler
POSTED // Apr 22,2014 - When I heard that Forage co-founder and up-and-coming celebrity chef Viet Pham was consulting with beloved Modern Family dad Ty Burrell and his Bar-X partners to create a new watering hole, my initial reaction was “Uh-oh.”

Sonora's Scholarship Fundraiser

Also: Vendors & Volunteers, New Habit.

By Ted Scheffler
POSTED // Apr 22,2014 - In a time marred by so much hostility toward immigrants—especially those coming from south of the border—it’s heartwarming that Ogden’s Sonora Grill (2310 Kiesel Ave., 801-393-1999, TheSonoraGrill.com) is stepping up to embrace them. On April 10, during the restaurant’s Dining for Dollars event, 100 percent of all sales and contributions—not just proceeds—from customers dining at Sonora Grill went into the Sonora Grill Scholarship program.

Food Truck Thursdays

All The Mobile Food You Need in Downtown SLC

By Jeffrey David
POSTED // Apr 22,2014 - It’s a terrible feeling when hunger pains are calling and the food truck you desire is not within a reasonable distance.

SLC Sports Bars

Huddling at a squad of SLC's best sports bars

By Ted Scheffler
POSTED // Apr 21,2014 - Salt Lake City isn’t as sports-crazed as some places I’ve lived, where publicly root-root-rooting for your favorite team can be a risky proposition.

Ghidotti's Remodel

Also: Top Chef Meatup, The Pig Returns

By Ted Scheffler
POSTED // Apr 15,2014 - If you haven’t visited Ghidotti’s Italian restaurant (6030 Market St., Park City, 435-658-0669, Ghidottis.com) recently, you should drop in. The lounge at Ghidotti’s has been overhauled, and it’s a great place for a nosh and libations, with an excellent menu of wines by the glass, beers and cocktails as well as pizzas, meatball sliders, artisan cheese plates, mussels in Marsala and more.

Zest Kitchen & Bar

Zest Kitchen & Bar is now open for lunch

By Amanda Rock
POSTED // Apr 15,2014 - A 21-and-older vegetarian restaurant that turns into a dance club, Zest Kitchen & Bar stands alone in Salt Lake City. Casey Staker created Zest—which serves an inventive cocktail menu and tasty food made with local ingredients—to combine his passion for organic cuisine, original cocktails and live local music.

Dutton-Goldfield Wines

World-class Chardonnay and Pinot at Lodge Bistro

By Ted Scheffler
POSTED // Apr 14,2014 - Mention Alta and Snowbird to Dan Goldfield—owner/founder of Sonoma’s Dutton-Goldfield Winery—and his eyes light up. Had he not gone into the wine biz, he’d have made a helluva ski bum. He and his family relish skiing in Utah, and make time nearly every year for a stay at Alta’s Goldminer’s Daughter Lodge. The accommodations for his most recent visit were a bit more upscale, however, as he was in town to host a wine dinner at the Bistro in The Lodge at Snowbird.

Pizza Mind

On the prowl for the perfect local pizza

By Ted Scheffler
POSTED // Apr 8,2014 - For pizza lovers—and who doesn’t love pizza?—the pursuit of the perfect pie is an ongoing quest, one without end. There is always another pizza pie to try, another nice slice.

Myung Ga Ramen

Myung Ga's Ramen is not your stereotypical noodle dish

By Jeffrey David
POSTED // Apr 8,2014 - Mention the word “ramen,” and many of us will instantly have anxiety-filled memories of 10-for-$1 noodle packages at the grocery store. Your parents might have even bought a case for less than what a fast-food kid’s meal would cost.

A Wee Dram of Glenfiddich

Getting to know the world’s most awarded single-malt Scotch.

By Ted Scheffler
POSTED // Apr 7,2014 - To be honest, I’m not much of a Scotch whisky drinker. But that may change. I’m beginning to appreciate the craftsmanship and care that goes into making single-malt Scotch, in part due to what amounted to a master’s seminar on the stuff during a recent lunch.
