Remembering Ted Wilson The Salt Lake City Council sends condolences to Mayor Ted L. Wilson's family and his friends across the globe. Mayor Wilson was a trailblazer and public servant in every sense—whether braving dangerous mountain terrain to rescue stranded hikers as a park ranger, or courageously leading the charge to change Salt Lake City's form of government to the more accountable and representative one it is today.

MAGA Hate Various anti-hate campaigns in the media today fail to mention the biggest hate movement of all—the one currently sponsored by far-right Republicans against Democrats. Republicans have incited hate crimes against Democrats' offices in Congress and private homes in California, and they've encouraged hate against judges and election workers.

TikTok Underground On March 13, the U.S. House of Representatives passed HR 7521, the "Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act." The bill—which would attempt to ban the social media app TikTok unless its Chinese owners, ByteDance, sell it to non-Chinese owners—faces an uncertain future in the Senate, but president Joe Biden says he'll sign it if it passes.

Luck of the Irish On the calendar, one of the most popular days of the year is March 17—St Patrick's day. This, of course, is for good reason—it's one of the few times each year when people are allowed to let off some steam, drink too much and just generally be jolly.

"Foul Ball," Feb. 29 Cover Story How about the U waits until the Bees or whatever g-d "pro" team gets their stadium built out in Daybreak and then the U takes over the g-d stadium that has already been built so people can continue to live in their rightfully bought homes? Quit ripping apart every piece of land to make a buck!

Apples to Apples Utah's public schools receive and spend over $11,000 per student. That is $3,000 more than the Utah Fits All Scholarship available to private school enrollees.

Resign, Cline Utah State Board of Education member Natalie Cline's reported actions of bullying a high school student are deeply troubling and unequivocally condemned by the Salt Lake City Council. As public officials, it is our duty to prioritize the safety and well-being of all individuals, particularly vulnerable youth who are entrusted to our care.

"Ticking Clock," Feb. 1 cover story Bravo to Mary Dickson for her bravery and tenacity with this most important cause. Being a downwinder myself, the government never told us the truth and how extremely dangerous the nuclear testing was.

"Feeling Flushed," Jan. 25 Online News Biology says vaginas are girls, penises are boys. Why is it so hard to understand?

Bad Faith vs. Authenticity After concluding a sumptuous meal at a high-end dining establishment—complete with delectable cuisine, a delightful ambiance and perfect service—one may find themselves pondering: What's the right tip? However, this seemingly ordinary scenario holds a profound philosophical underpinning, as highlighted by Jean Paul Sartre's 1943 publication Being and Nothingness.

Their Own Devices The topic of cell phone bans in schools has been popping up over and over again in the news. There are articles from USA Today, Ed Week and The 74 Million.

Unfair Care I am a 15-year-old transgender male living in Utah who is currently seeking gender-affirming surgery, but a bill adopted last year by the Utah Legislature (SB16) is making that impossible for nearly three more years. And who's to say there won't be more bills passed in that time frame that could make it more difficult, even as an adult?

"Unfinished Work," Dec. 14 Private Eye I loved, loved, loved John Saltas' piece on Mike "Weasel" Lee. It amazes me that the people of this state voted him into office again.

"Use of Force," Dec. 14 Cover Story Being a police officer is one of the most demanding jobs there is. They're constantly put in dangerous situations and have to make split-second decisions that could have life-or-death consequences. It's no wonder that they experience a lot of mental wear and tear.
