City Weekly reader and food enthusiast Scott Jinks writes: I just want to briefly mention my favorite Chinese restaurant. It’s South China House (428 E. 900 South, 801-364-9918). I eat there about once a week. The lunch specials are just $5.50 and come with your choice of soup, including won-ton (which I love), an egg roll that is actually delicious (in stark contrast, for me, to most restaurant egg rolls), your choice of many entrees (my favorite being the chicken lo mein, which is the best I’ve had east of San Francisco!) and a generous portion of white or fried rice. South China House is a family operation, the service is always good, and if you enjoy Chinese food, I recommend that you should eat there if you haven’t already.
Dani Johnson (wife of City Weekly managing editor Josh Loftin) suggests a good place to wait for a table. She writes: It’s no secret that the food at Mazza Middle Eastern Cuisine (900 S. 912 East, 801-521-4572 and 1500 E. 1515 South, 801-484-9259) is superb, and the wait for a table on the weekend can be long. Thanks to one of the best waiting areas in the state at the 9th & 9th location, however, that wait is generally pleasant. There are tables to sit at in the back corner, and wine can be ordered, often from the friendly server, Joe. And, better yet, it’s delivered promptly. It’s actually a great way to start the meal, and something every restaurant should offer.
City Weekly staffers: Heidi Weggeland: One of my favorite memories is of taking my young daughter to Lamb’s Grill Cafe (169 S. Main, 801-364-7166) after a performance of The Nutcracker. Because we were all dressed up, I thought it would be a fun place to teach her about etiquette. To this day, it is one of our favorite places to eat.

As I've been eating at South China House since it opened, I'd like to ammend Scott's observation and note that SCH is as much Vietnamese (or more so) as it is Chinese. They make excellent pho there.
