Radio Hour: Alice

Oct. 23-31

By Scott Renshaw

It’s the 21st century, man. We’re watching movies on our PDAs and listening to podcasts. Why in the world do we need to dust off something as ancient as radio drama?

This year marks the fifth-annual attempt by Plan-B Theatre Company to answer that question—and it has also answered it by creating compelling theater out of folks sitting at their microphones. For 2009, playwright Matthew Ivan Bennett adapts Lewis Carroll to present the adventures of Alice through the looking glass. Fifteen-year-old Emma Munson provides the voice of Alice, with support from a gifted cast including X96 radio DJ Bill Allred, Tobin Atkinson, Jay Perry and Teresa Sanderson (the latter three were part of of 2008’s Radio Hour: Frankenstein).

See it live to observe how the technical crew helps bring the sound effects to life. Then tune in to KUER 90.1 FM for the 11 a.m. or 7 p.m. performances on Oct. 30 to really return to a bygone era.

Radio Hour: Alice @ Rose Wagner Center, 138 W. 300 South, 801-355-ARTS, Oct. 23-31. PlanBTheatre.org
