Stop the Hops

By City Weekly Readers

I believe we must stop the madness of consumption of beer. My main objections are world poverty and sidewalks covered with debris.

We all know what beer is made out of: food. How much grain is wasted for alcohol that could have been used to feed the hungry? If there were no beer, there would be a substantial increase in food. What is wine made out of? Fruit.

Yes, I know, we eat fruit—or do we? How many of us have walked down a sidewalk under a berry tree, with so many fallen berries they literally cover the sidewalk? Any fruit that is not poisonous can be fermented. We can start with fruit that we normally waste, food that falls on the ground. Wine is beneficial.
