Prop. 1, Dialogue on Sexual Violence & Life on State

While the city’s cop-shop controversy has died down, the city still needs to sell the Proposition 1 bond to voters in this year’s general election on Nov. 3. That’s why they’re taking the case to the people. Check that out, and while you’re at it attend a dialogue on sexual violence in Utah and a public workshop on revitalizing Salt Lake County’s vital public artery, State Street.

Proposition 1 to People’s Freeway Community Council
Thursday, Oct. 1
Hear the city’s sales pitch for a $125 million bond for a new public safety civic campus across the street from Library Square. The meetings will be all over the city in coming weeks as bond supporter´s talk about the decrepit status of the current public safety building and how the time is right to invest in a new facility. The city expects the tax impact will only be about $75 a year per residential property.

Dialogue on Sexual Violence
Tuesday, Oct. 6
The Rape Recovery Center will be hosting a forum along with the local chapter of the Human Rights Commission discussing how to enhance local services for sexual abuse victims. It’s a topic that, sadly, never goes away and public support is always important for improving the healing environment for sexual-abuse victims. The event is free and open to the public, with Spanish translation available.

Life on State Open House
Tuesday, October 6
Life on State planners have been compiling survey responses and input from public workshops. Now, they are presenting drafts on the vision of what to do with Salt Lake City´s grand ol’ drag, State Street. Take a peek at how the plan to revitalize the street is taking shape and give a holler if you feel something’s still missing from the vision.
