The Way It Is | Terrece Beesley of Art at the Main

Tooele Police are concerned about a rash of recent animal killings, especially after a Tooele family had two pet pygmy goats stolen and decapitated. While a law passed last Legislative session makes animal torture a felony, the law applies only to domestic dogs and cats. If the goat killers are caught, they will not be subject to felony charges. I believe the law is too narrow. Any time a person tortures an animal—any kind of animal—it should be a felony. I don’t think there should be any distinction if you’re torturing an animal, a being that can’t defend itself, just for pleasure.
