The Way It Is | Steve Christopher, owner of the Souvenir Stop at Temple Square

Soon, Utah residents who filed their tax returns can expect economic stimulus checks, with individuals receiving approximately $600. The plan is meant to encourage consumers to purchase goods and services so as to invigorate the economy. City Weekly asked Steve Christopher, owner of the Souvenir Stop at Temple Square, if he thought the plan would be effective or if people would simply save the money or use it to pay off debt:

“Well, it could go either way. It depends on their personal circumstances. Obviously, as a retailer, I think it would be great for them to come spend some money, but on the other hand, I understand as an individual that saving is important, too. It may overall be beneficial for the economy.”
