This week, Salt Lakers can schedule time to meet with Mayor Ralph Becker to chew the fat over any municipal issues that might be bugging them. But if NSA bugging is your main issue, you can join Restore the Fourth Utah this weekend, as members both clean up a highway they adopted next to the Utah NSA Spy Center and protest against Big Brother. Later, attend a pizza & politics forum at the University of Utah and hear former U.S. Sen. Bob Bennett talk about the challenges of today’s partisan gridlock.

Meet the Mayor
Through Oct. 30

Salt Lake City residents have until Oct. 30 to schedule a 10-minute meeting with Ralph Becker on Wednesday, Oct. 30, between 4 and 6 p.m. Residents must schedule their meeting in advance, and the subject must be a matter of city business, though residents are asked to not schedule a meeting to attempt to appeal a city decision against a resident.
Salt Lake City & County Building, 451 S. State, 801-535-7704, through Oct. 30, 4-6 p.m., call or visit the Mayor’s office to schedule a meeting before Oct. 30, Mayor.SLCGov.com

Restore the Fourth
Saturday, Oct. 26

The explosive news of the NSA’s massive surveillance of Americans’ e-mails and phone records has drawn heat from local civil-liberty advocates Restore the Fourth, and the group has now adopted the highway adjacent to Bluffdale’s NSA spy center. This weekend, you can help keep the road clean and, at the same time, rally against the great and terrifying surveillance machine right in our own backyard.
Oct. 26, 10 a.m., visit Facebook.com/RallyAgainstPrism for meeting information

The Current Political Landscape
Monday, Oct. 28

Come join former U.S. Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, at this free forum at the University of Utah’s Hinckley Institute of Politics as he discusses the ugly landscape of Utah’s and the nation’s partisan politics. The forum will lend itself to discussions ranging from the shutdown in D.C. to political reform in Utah.
Orson Spencer Hall, Hinckley Caucus Room, 260 S. Central Campus Drive, University of Utah, 801-581-8501, Hinckley.Utah.edu
