Arbor Day, Work Party & Live Green

By Eric S. Peterson
Posted // April 25,2013 -

This weekend, give back to the earth you walk on and the air you breathe by joining nonprofit TreeUtah in a tree-planting volunteer event. Later in the week, join the Communities of Resilient Resistance at an open work party and hone your activist skills. Looking ahead, sign up to help out at the 10th-annual Live Green SLC! Festival on May 4.

Arbor Day Planting Celebration
Friday, April 26

The out-and-proud tree huggers of TreeUtah are looking for volunteers to help plant trees in the community. You can celebrate Arbor Day by helping plant trees in Sugar House Park. Or, you can always check their calendar for plenty of other local tree-planting opportunities. Sugar House Park, 1350 E. 2100 South, 801-364-2122, April 26, 3-5 p.m. & 5-7 p.m., TreeUtah.org

Communities of Resilient Resistance Work Party
Monday, April 29

If you’ve had some righteous rage but are unsure how to put your idealism and passion to good use, check out the Communities of Resilient Resistance Work Party. At the event, activists from a variety of causes—including the eco-activists of the Utah Tar Sands Resistance and members of Peaceful Uprising—will work on creative projects and discuss climate justice and theories of social change and activism. All are welcome to attend. PeaceUp Warehouse, 1361 S. Main, 801-747-9871, April 29, 5-8 p.m.,

Live Green SLC! Festival Volunteering
Saturday, May 4

The 10th-annual Live Green SLC! Festival is a celebration of all things clean and green. This free event brings together numerous vendors of green and organic goodies and services, booths offering tips on green living, face painting for the kids, a solar- powered beer garden for the grownups— courtesy of Uinta Brewing—and lots more. Volunteers are needed for short shifts throughout the day. Visit LiveGreenSLC.com for more information and volunteer registration
