Time to Give

Santa time is upon us

By Eric S. Peterson
Posted // December 20,2012 -

Santa time is upon us, and, hopefully, that means your shopping is done and you can take some time to give to those folks whose holiday stress involves finding shelter from the cold and food to keep them going, as well as to the families struggling to find a little Christmas magic for their children. This week, you can shop for the child of a low-income family, take part in a benefit comedy show or join in a jolly winter 5K Santa run to benefit the Road Home shelter.

The Gift of the Drummer
Dec. 20-25

Every year, Catholic Community Services helps partner families looking to do a good deed this holiday with the families who lack the means and resources to bring holiday joy to their children this Christmas. Sign up to sponsor a child or children for whom you can do some shopping, and brighten Christmas morning. Catholic Community Services, 745 E. 300 South, 801-977-9119, through Dec. 25, email drummer@ccsutah.org to be assigned a child to sponsor

Mission Improvible
Friday, Dec. 21

Hilarity House Productions in Ogden is hosting a benefit show for The Road Home shelter, which provides services to Utah’s low-income and homeless families. By paying $5 at the door or $3 with the donation of warm clothing, nonperishable food item or a blanket, you can get your laugh on and do it for a good cause. Salt Rock Coffee, 270 12th St., Ogden, 801-392-5589, Dec. 21, 10 p.m.-12 a.m., TheRoadHome.org

Santa Hat Dash & Reindeer Run 5K
Saturday, Dec. 22

For all you 5K fanatics bummed by the season’s change, here’s your chance to stretch those legs and do some winter running for a good cause. Don your best Santa hat and head out to Sugar House Park, where your same-day registration of $20—which goes to helps the Road Home shelter—gets you into the 5K and an invite to the post-race hot-cocoa party at The Dodo Restaurant. Sugar House Park, 1300 E. 2100 South, 801-359-4142, Dec. 22, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., TheRoadHome.org
