This weekend, hit the slopes all day for only $40 and help out the Utah Special Olympics in the process. Next week, stop by the Legislature’s Health Systems Reform Task Force meeting to hear state leaders discuss whether or not to expand Medicaid in the state. Later in the week, grab some free food or donate leftover food you don’t need at a Food Not Bombs gathering in Richmond Park.

Brighton Resort is hosting an event this weekend that’ll get you an all-day lift ticket for only $40, with all proceeds going to benefit the Utah Special Olympics. Besides getting plenty of warm fuzzies to help keep you cozy on the slopes, you’ll also get to enjoy the Saga Rail Jam, take part in a race, score autograph signings from Pep Fujas and Wiley Miller, and have your snowboard or skis waxed by the University of Utah Ski Team. Brighton Resort, 8302 S. Brighton Loop Road, Brighton, 801-635-5421, Dec. 15, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., pre-register before midnight Dec. 14 at SOUT.org

Health System Reform Taskforce
Monday, Dec. 17

Obamacare is coming, which means Utah leaders need to decide how much federal medicine the state will have to swallow. A major, as-yet-undecided issue that will be discussed at Monday’s meeting is whether to expand the state Medicaid program to 138 percent of the poverty level or concoct some kind of state-based alternative. Utah Capitol, 350 N. State, 801-538-1035, Dec. 17, 1 p.m., Le.Utah.gov

Food Not Bombs
Tuesday, Dec. 18

The good-hearted anarchists of Food Not Bombs and the Boing Collective are hosting a food dropoff and pickup this week in Salt Lake City’s Richmond Park. If you’re in the area and you’ve got food you’d like to donate to hungry folks, stop by and check it out. Or if you’re in need of some food, you can also grab some for yourself, no questions asked. Richmond Park, 450 E. 600 South, 801-364-2462, Dec. 18, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
