Peace for Holidays

Honk & wave & volunteer this weekend

By Eric S. Peterson
Posted // November 15,2012 -

This weekend, join local anti-war activists in making some noise for peace in our world. Later, you can do some guilt-free holiday shopping at a boutique with proceeds benefiting the Work Activity Center nonprofit, which helps employ disabled adults. Also, sign up now to volunteer for Salt Lake City’s World AIDS Day events.

Honk & Wave for Peace
Saturday, Nov. 17

If your favorite motto is “give peace a chance,” then it’s time join up with some other local peaceniks saying the same thing. This weekend, meet up with local peace activists at a honk-and-wave event for peace and add your voice to the chorus of activists looking to raise awareness of the high cost of America’s foreign wars. Signs will be provided, or you can bring your own. 2100 S. 700 East, Salt Lake City, Nov. 17, 3-4 p.m., for more info e-mail dianalee@xmission.com

Holiday Boutique
Saturday, Nov. 17

For half a century, The Work Activity Center has been striving to improve the lives of adults with disabilities by offering them work, health care and other services to promote independence. This weekend, do some holiday shopping and buy yourself a little good karma at the same time by checking out a holiday boutique at the Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church. Admission is free and, along with over 50 vendors, there will be lunch and Greek pastries available, with a portion of proceeds going to support the Work Activity Center. Prophet Elias Orthodox Church, 5335 S. Highland Drive, Holladay, 801-977-9779, Nov. 17, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., WorkActivityCenter.org
